If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done... -- Anonymous NEWS from CPSCU.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
CPSC, Excel Industries Inc. Announce Recall of Riding Lawn MowersWASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Excel Industries Inc., of Hesston, Kan., is voluntarily recalling about 1,500 Hustler "FasTrak" riding lawn mowers. Excessive heat, vibrations and wear causes the fuel line to droop over time and rub against the transmission fan, causing the fuel line to be cut. This poses a fire hazard and a risk of burn injuries to consumers.Excel has received two reports of incidents where gasoline leaks were discovered. No injuries or property damage have been reported. This recall involves Hustler "FasTrak" riding mowers with 44- and 52-inch decks. The riding mowers are yellow and black with the "FasTrak" logo printed on both sides. The model and serial number of the mower can be found on an identification plate on the left side of the frame in front of the fuel tank, below the operator's platform. This recall also includes products which are produced by Excel for Land Pride, Division of Great Plains Manufacturing, Inc., of Salina, KS. Land Pride's product is the "Accu-Z Razor." The riding mowers are beige and black with the "Razor Z" logo printed on the rear of the unit, and Accu-Z logo printed on both sides.
Authorized Hustler dealers sold these riding mowers nationwide from November 2001 through May 2002 for between $4,700 and $5,500. Consumers should stop using these recalled riding mowers immediately and contact their local Hustler dealer to determine if their mower is included in the recall. The dealer will reroute the fuel line and replace it if necessary. To locate an authorized Hustler dealer, consumers can call (800) 395-4757 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. To locate an authorized Land Pride dealer, consumers can call (888) 987-7433, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
